Afternoon Tea adventures – Edae Seoul
As a Brit abroad, one of the most taxing things in life is finding tea. South Korea does a pretty great range of traditional teas, from the herbal to those that are a liiiiitle closer to the land of jjuk than the beverage I grew up with, but sometimes all you want is a cup of a decent English Breakfast brew, and you just… can’t find it.
… and if you’re lucky enough to be near a homeplus or e-mart that does stock a variety, it’s eye-wateringly painful to part with the cash for about 10 tea bags. *insert string of woeful_emojis.png*
So when I stumble (almost literally) upon unassuming afternoon tea houses in various parts of Seoul, it almost seems rude not to give them a try. If you remember when I was here last, I was singing the praises of Bloom & Goute, yet it seems to have disappeared in the time I was away as things in Seoul often do. I’ve inadvertently filled the position it left open though, with the Afternoon Tea tearoom I discovered in Edae.
Which, let me tell you, is beautiful.
It’s hidden on Ewhayeodae-2gil, the street that runs parallel to Ewhayeondae-gil or the main street that the Edae subway exits bring you out onto that leads towards Ewha main gate. The tea house itself is pretty longstanding, since 2001 so hopefully it doesn’t vanish.
The menus were beautifully well looked through – always a fab sign when one’s in Seoul – with pages and pages and pages of teas. Classics, Chinese herbal, Oolongs, Dahjeelings’, Chais’
