Despite being routinely ridiculed by sunshine and it not being warm (what is this winter of which you speak???), I am seeing rain marginally less, blue skies marginally more, and hold up it’s still light-ish at half 5 in the evening. This practically means we’ve hit spring. I don’t care if that’s horrifically optimistic.
And with spring comes transitions and cleaning and sometimes veritable wardrobe overhauls, or at least a few new, key pieces to add to the hangers. I know everything is very much centered around the autumn/winter collections right now, what with LFW just finishing (cue the tiny violin because I wasn’t there), but sometimes it’s nice to have a little reminder of what to expect for the season we’re moving into.
the bomber/souvenir jacket
You’ll be seeing more and more of these on the racks as the new season styles are rotated in, and I, for one, am really quite glad that this style of jacket is having a moment. It’s a very versatile pieces that can work with a range of styles to add a bit of utility flair, and almost a tomboyish element to some more feminine outfits. I picked mine up from Taobao, and have had great fun styling it so far – although my age-old lust for the Japanese Souvenir jackets has resurfaced something fierce, they’re the silky looking ones with intricate embroidery. Hopefully we’ll see a nice variation in lengths, but if you feel they fit a bit oddly, don’t be afraid to have a wander into the men’s’ section.

colour to add: dusty pink/dusky rose
If you want to be at the peak of your fashion game for the upcoming season, then inject the tiniest amount of colour with a piece or two in a dusty pink or rose. Pinks can be quite an intimidated colour to wear: it’s most often very bright or very pastel, and can be quite difficult to coordinate into outfits, but the muted nature of this seasons shade will make it easier to fit seamlessly into even the most neutral of wardrobes. It’s a nice complementary colour to kahki, which is still holding strong as another key colour for the season, and I’m loving some of the darker, warmer shades this dusty pink trend has to offer.

the slip dress:
I’m not sure how on board with this trend I am, since spaghetti strap dresses that are generally quite low in the back aren’t one of those things I look at and go ‘need. need now’. Got a little too much boobage for that, really, but I am liking the layering that’s the choice way to wear them up until the weather starts actually meaning sunny = warm. Pop a polo, high, or crew neck top underneath and wham, bam, instant chic. I especially love the looks that involve short sleeves because I think it looks really cute.

I appreciate the fact that we’re starting to see more evergreen trends coming forward for multi-season wear, rather than an entire wardrobe reboot the minute the weather hints at a change. It’s nice, because these three trends can really work with your entire wardrobe, and you can double up – say, a dusky pink bomber jacket or slip dress – and you’ve hit two of the three. I don’t mind fast fashion, but I’m trying to create a more ethical, timeless wardrobe so this lean towards pieces that will be good for a few years is something I am definitely on board with.
What do you think of these trends? Did they make your top three, or have I missed one that definitely needs to be included? Let me know!
