Despite having a tee somewhere that states ‘ain’t Laurent without Yves’, the House of (Y)SL is firmly wedged in the list of my brand favourites season after season. Modern yet iconic pieces are the foundations of a killer wardrobe, and although I can’t afford anything (yet), it doesn’t stop me window shopping on sites such as farfetch, creating outfits that I will one day wear to be effortlessly fab. Because head to toe in Saint Laurent… *whimsical sigh*
iconic smoking jacket / classic t-shirt / denim mini skirt / punk bracelet / medium ‘Emmanuelle’ bucket bag / court classic sneakers / eighties popsicle pin
When farfetch asked if I wanted to take part in a competition to create a complete Saint Laurent look around the iconic smoking jacket and potentially win £250 to spend on the website, the little stylist in me was super excited to get going and see what I could create.
I am seriously in love with the ‘model off duty’ look – that ‘rolled out of bed and threw a bunch of clothes on but still look a million dollars’ vibe, and Saint Laurent pieces make that super easy to achieve. The Saint Laurent smoking jacket is such a staple wardrobe piece, a great tailored alternative to the biker jacket that dresses up a casual outfit like the one I’ve created here. With pieces that have been borrowed from the mens side of fashion, I like to keep other aspects of the outfit more form fitting to contrast the boxy or oversized outer, and this denim mini skirt is perfect. The zip detailing and high waist of the skirt adds a little edge.
To keep the model-off-duty vibe, I’ve paired the skirt and smoking jacket with the classic t shirt in white – as monochrome is a fashion staple that never goes out of style, and tucked-in-tees are a cool girl identifier. I also opted for these court classic sneakers instead of killer heels (though heels are a good call too), as it keeps the look a little more casual. If you’re wanting to add heels, then any of the selection of ankle boots would compliment the rest of outfit nicely.
For accessories, I’ve added a nod to the fringe and the bucket bag trends with the Emmanuelle in size medium, and a little bit of arm candy with the punk bracelet, that would look ace with the sleeves of the smoking jacket rolled back. To add a little bit of colour to the outfit, I added this eighties popsicle pin, which would look adorable pinned to either the tee or the jacket.
Like me, if you don’t have the funds for this exact outfit, it’s also really easily recreatable with items from the high street. so you can have an eternally stylish look that gives a pretty heft hat-tip to the iconic fashion House.
What do you think of this outfit? How would you style the iconic Saint Laurant smoking jacket – dressed up, down, girly, androgynous? The possibilities are endless.
