There’s a place in London that does good matcha. I repeat; there is a place in London that does good matcha. 

That’s basically my life goal, find restaurants that don’t massacre one of my favourite ingredients.

I was introduced to this gem of a spot by Cherie, who was lovely enough to treat me to a birthday lunch when I was down in London for the Blogosphere Tea Party. Caffe L’eto in Soho was, unsurprisingly, busy; but anywhere that manages to do a decent matcha beverage can be as busy as it wants as long as it serves me food.

It’s one of those spots where the menu is perfect for brunch: lots of breakfast options as well as light lunch dishes, and caters for a variety of dietary requirements. It’s basically everything my parents would turn their nose up at for being too millennial, but it’s so hard to find places that do dairy free yoghurt.

Lunch for us was an Asian inspired breakfast plate for Cherie (for the lols) and a Australian rye bread with avocado for me. Because #stereotypicalblogger, can’t be 3 foot away from an avocado without breaking into hives or something.

Cherie assured me that her dish was great – though the most Asian thing on it was the shiitake mushrooms – it looked pretty fab to be honest. My own was very pleasant, chilli and avocado is a fab combination and I would definitely recommend. I’m trying it on all the things at home.

However, the absolute stand out of our lunch for me, was the matcha. We both got a green matcha ice tea, and my expectations weren’t high after the disappointing latte I had at Hive. But this time I was pleasantly surprised. L’eto add a citrus twist to their matcha ice tea, which was totally unexpected but very refreshing for the heat that day. The tea selection L’eto have was what attracted me to grabbing lunch there in the first place. It’s a fab list, including custom teas that sound super intriguing.

Time wasn’t on our side so we didn’t get to try any of the cakes along the front of the shop, which I’m slightly disappointed about, but when you’re waiting for food and on a tight enough schedule it’s not the best.

Despite it’s tiny size (not a bad thing, I’ve experienced many a hole-in-the-wall in Korea that were the best places), L’eto is a cafe that I’m going to remember during the circus of fashion week as a hideaway from the ridiculousness, but close enough that it’s not hopping on a bus or tube.

Here’s to another slightly-hipster (but it’s Soho, what do you expect) cafe to add to my ever growing list of places I can actually get lunch.
