It’ll come as no surprise that I’m kinda fond of travelling. I love new cities and new cultures and new places to explore and get lost (and hopefully un-lost) in. I’m a sucker for architecture and artsy little side-streets, and, 90% of the time when left to my own devices with a camera it will be of food or scenery. One of the items on my bucket list is to visit at least one city in every country (within reason, I don’t exactly have a death wish).
My wanderlust knows no bounds, it seems. But there are 9 places that I really, really, really, really, really, want to visit right this very second.
Exams be… semi-damned??
#1 Singapore
mariana bay :: quang dang |
If you gave me a blank plane ticket and said I could go anywhere in the world, I’d say Singapore without hesitation. Eternal summer and intense humidity be damned, I wanna go sooooo baaaaad. It has some of the most gorgeous modern architecture mixed with traditional and you’ll probably see that’s the crazy juxtaposition that I don’t think I’ll ever fall out of love with. Also the food, and the people. I’d really, really love to meet more of my Singaporean friends in the flesh. Please show me all the good spots so I can thoroughly embarrass you all with my MASSIVE TOURISTY CAMERA.
#2 Gothenburg – Sweden
Gothenburg Nights :: Rytis Šeškaitis |
I’ve never been to Sweden. Ever. I’d love to road trip through the entire country but I’m hitting up Gothenburg before I go anywhere else. First and foremost, you gotta see your friends you’ve met on your year abroad (what are year abroads for, eh, connecting). Secondly, I’d just really love to visit, especially at winter. I’ve seen photos that make it look absolutely magical.
#3 Osaka – Japan
Shinseikai, Osaka :: Juanma Lopez |
Tokyo is great and all, but my little weeb heart was born in the streets of Osaka. Kansai-ben, man. I’d love to do the whole of Japan properly at some point, the history and the touristy, but mostly I just wanna sit in a tiny hole-in-the-wall joint eating ace udon (because udon is the best noodle) and getting moderately inebriated on sweet umeshu. That’s plum wine. Please please please please pleaseeeeee.
#4 Rome – Italy
Sunset in Rome :: David Mikkelsen |
I’m no stranger to Italy, but I haven’t been to Rome yet. Which I think is possibly a sin in most European travel circles. Oops. And well, the question of what the Romans do when in Rome has been playing on my mind for quite a while… Plus, who wouldn’t want to wander through the streets with all that stunning architecture to gawk at – not to mention the food.
#5 Hong Kong
Hong-Kong Wooloomooloo Bar Rooftop :: Raphaël Melloul |
Technically a re-visit, but I’d much prefer to see Hong Kong in a non-whistlestop ‘gotta get away from stuff’ kinda way. I think it would also be nice to remember to take my camera too. Because the last time I didn’t. And probably not decide to go at the beginning of July, possibly for longer than a weekend. All the mistakes. Many regret. Will try and rectify.
#6 Wulingyuan (Zhangjiajie) National Park – China
source |
If you tell me that you don’t want to travel here at least once in your life then you are lying. Unless you have a severe fear of heights. Or China. It honestly looks so mystical and magical that I used to think it was just an incredibly incredible rendering of game scenery. I’d love to visit all of the national parks, China has a pretty diverse topography – super want to see it all – and so each one has something pretty spiffy about it. Obviously cities feature in my wanderlust for this particular country, but I think I’d rather go ‘rural’-urban – well… rural within reason – before I sacrifice a lung to Beijing or Shanghai.
#7 Krakow – Poland
deanosouthcoast.blogspot.au |
Well if this isn’t the definition of idyllic I don’t know what is. (Ok maybe Paris.) But I just love. Things. Like. This. I would love to learn more about Krakow, as it’s a place with an awful lot of history. I’d really like to try authentic Polish food, too.
#8 Edinburgh – Scotland
Calton Hill :: The Traveller |
NEVER BEEN TO SCOTLAND. Closet I’ve got is Northumberland, but Scotland? NopE. Also there’s the potential to pay Chantel/Bonnie Blondie a visit. I’d put on my best Scottish accent and everyth-
Ok, no I wouldn’t but I’d certainly take advantge of aLL THE ARCHITECTURE and stone buildings and take some really (hopefully) awesome shots. It’s the most affordable destination for me to get to by myself so hopefully this one will happen soon.
#9 Neuschwanstein Castle – Germany
I don’t know if this is a sever case of want to visit or want to live because HELLO FAIRYTALE CASTLE. I could finally realise my true nature as the badass Ice Princess of my dreams. I mean, I’d def need to hit the gym before going though, this place is at an impressive altitude, and as hilly as Sheffield is, I don’t think it quite has me prepared for that.
Ahhhhhh the dream to have 6 months holiday twice a year where you can travel the world~
Unfortunately this is still very much a dream as student and finances aren’t exactly easy to come across when long-haul flights are probably going to cost me a kidney. One day. One daaay.
Your turn now! Where do you want to travel to most in the world? Going anywhere nice over summer????? Let me know, we can share the wanderlust bug~

Ooooooo great choices in destinations 😉 ANNECY IS GORGEOUS I loved it so so so sooo much when I went a few years back. If you stay in the Mercur (sp??) then it's a brilliant distance away from the lake and the town 🙂 Not too noisy either and on one of the most gorgeous streets xo

I have only been to 4 of those places (Singapore, Hong Kong, Rome and Osaka) but I recommend them all except Rome. Well, it's a beautiful place but you have to be really careful with scams, we had so many problems ;_;My travel goals for the rest of this year are Bangkok, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur and Japan but I don't think I can fit them all in.{ sparklesideup.com }

I've been to Singapore and Hong Kong and I think you will love it there. Although, the people in Hong Kong aren't very friendly, it's a nice city. I really want to visit Turkey. It's been on my list for ages but I'm waiting for the right time to go. I need to find the right group of people to travel with so as to make the most of my time there. xAria | Girl in a Whimsical Land

Yeah! You have Germany on your list. Please come and visit Berlin when you're around. I've been to Neuschwanstein as a kid and I had to touch everything because it is absolutely magnificent inside. Lots of rubins and other gems. We also have towns with pitoresk market squares like the one in Krakow.Personally I'd love to go and explore Yorkshire and go to Australia to cuddle koala bears and see the great barrier reef. Hope your exams went well xxxCaz | Style Lingua

Just had another look at the Krakow picture. I've lived in one of these old houses for about four years in Leipzig. They are brilliant. Perfect from the outside and inside with high ceilings and structured ornaments. Caz | Style Lingua
