What do you do when you (brilliantly) forget to bring shampoo of all things to uni? You bite the bullet and go down to Lush to see what they have in their slightly-overwhelmingly large hair-care collection. And ask about things.
It’s not something that I’ve talked about on the blog, because there are countless other people who are better informed than me, and generally a lot more comfortable talking about it, but I suffer from a form of trichotillomania – yes that hair-pulling compulsion. It’s become a lot better over the years, but I’ve put my scalp through an actual awful amount and once I read Lace and Whimsy‘s blog post on her current hair-care routine, I felt like I absolutely had to try Lush.
So when I was recently down in London, I popped into the Oxford Street branch and asked some q’s, deciding that as my hair is also not in the best condition, I should probably give the avocado co-wash a go.
It makes my bathroom smell divine.
The avacado co-wash is a solid shampoo, made with fresh avocado, extra virgin olive oil and cider vinegar. Lush claims that it gently cleanses without stripping the hair of its naturally protective oils, also including cupuacu butter, cocoa butter (fair trade and organic!), and bergamot oil to the list of ingredients. As someone with slightly dry, naturally curly hair, and an agitated scalp, I was excited to try this after chatting to some of the staff.
Verdict?
In the two weeks I’ve been using this so far, I have seen a bit of an improvement. My scalp feels less irritated, so the urge to scratch/pull is lessened, and my hair does feel softer. I was told that the ingredients promote hair growth also, which I’ve seen – heyyyy there baby hairs!
I did find the bar quite hard to lather up, which frustrated me initially, as my shower is not one that is totes fine with me using all the hot water. But if you get the bar sufficiently wet (stop laughing) then it soaps up just fine. What can I say, I’m impatient.
As a first foray into Lush hair care, I’m really happy so far. I’m hoping that the condition of my tresses just keeps improving, and am quiiite tempted to invest in the roots treatment next.
Have you tried Lush hair care? What do you think of it?

I've basically learned that holding it under water for a bit longer than I think it *should* be left makes it lather a lot easier! :Dxo
