I thought it was high time I did some swatchin’ and reviewin’ of the Makeup Revolution products I picked up here, now that I’ve had a chance to actually use them. In the run-up to making my initial purchase , I asked around for thoughts from friends and bloggers who had heard of, or used the brand, just so I knew what I was letting myself in for. I’m not the only one that does that, right? The recurring themes seemed to be: ‘highly pigmented’, ‘easy to use’ and ‘surprisingly versatile’. Strong claims there. Do I agree?
I’ll start off with lips, seeing as that’s what I’ve been using most (other than the brushes). I picked up two shades from the #liphug range (‘Want to leave?’ and ‘Present has no living’), and one from the matte shades range: ‘Dare’.
‘Dare’ is a wonderful addition to my reds. since I already have a good ‘dried blood of my enemies’ shade and a slightly sweeter glossy one of a similar tone. I haven’t found Dare to be incredibly moisturising, but then matte formula’s don’t tend to have that trait in my experience. It’s a stunning colour though, and has good durability and pigmentation.
Both the #liphug shades are brilliantly opaque. The swatches of each are one swipe of the stick against my hand – such good colour payoff! I love pink lipsticks, especially ones with subtle variances, so I’m loving having both of these in my collection. Both of these are pretty long lasting too, and I didn’t find they transferred much onto glasses, which was great considering I didn’t want to be that girl leaving lipstick stains all over her cocktails.
I do think that the ‘present has no living’ shade is a very similar colour to The Face Shop’s lip tint stick in ‘Sweet Cherry’, just a lot more opaque.
So, Girl Panic palette time. I’ve said before that I’m not particularly a palette fan, as usually the benefits for me don’t usually outweigh the costs. Girl Panic I find to be really versatile, despite two thirds of the shadows being shimmer shades. There are 18 colours in total, and they all have really good colour payoff for me dragging the little foam applicator through each pan once or twice. Even the pale shades.
From left to right we have: Panic On The Street, By Invitation, Going On To Somewhere, I am Beaten, Voices In My Head, and City Trap.
Left to right: Girlfriend, Chelsea Mayhem, Random, Going Nowhere, Get Closer, and Demolition.
Left to right for the final time: Going Under, Let It Happen, Naked Through, Hypnotic, Mesmerised, and Clever Words.
I really feel that the matte shades could be great for subtle contouring as well as being amazing bases for the shimmer. I think my favourite from the whole palette has to be Get Closer, it’s an amazing silver-blue and I’ve never had anything like it in my collection before.
Overall, I’m so pleased with these products, and I do agree with the claims of high pigmentation, and that the products are versatile. The packaging is also really slim, so it can be slipped into a travel case without taking up too much room at all – perfect for me as I’m going to be on the move a l o t this year!
What do you think? Any of the shades caught your eye (ha)? Or do you have a favourite Makeup Revolution palette or lipstick or your own – they have such a massive collection for such a young company, I’m so excited to see what they release over 2015.

It's absolutely gorgeous! I was worried it would be too bright a pink for me, but it mellows out on the lips really nicely 🙂

For the price they really are! Dare was £1, and the other were only a smidge more than that – way less than your usual drugstore prices and the colour payoff is so good!xo

I was surprised that they were getting so much hype for the age of the company (under a year old, I think??!) and I'm so so impressed. xo
