My absolute shoedrobe staple, my must-have item, my ‘nothing is complete unless I have this in my life’ is the Chelsea Boot. Flat, heeled, platform, midnight black or leopard accented, they’re a classic shape and so very, very versatile. Minimal fuss, minimal effort – maximum chic.
Seriously, I don’t think they let you into Paris without proof you own a pair***.
(***Don’t quote me on this, it’s 90% a joke)
It might be surprising then, that right now I only actually own one pair of flat Chelsea Boots. I’m picky, you see, and have been brought up to appreciate the breathability of leather uppers and flexible soles. Also arch support. It’s hard to find a shoe that fits all the criteria that is affordable – most leather-upper bendy soled flat shoes are waaaaaaay out of my price range… apart from this pair.
The pair that is the actual MVP of my shoe collection right now, the ASOS Airbound Leather Chelsea Ankle Boot.
I picked these up as an emergency replacement for a pair I had to retire (boohoo: cream and black with a metal band on the heel; reason: the heel… fell off), since accidents actually happened. I tried a couple of styles on in various stores but didn’t like any, so took to asos and had a snoop. The internet is a dangerous, dangerous place for my bank account, and the brown pair of the ASOS Airbound Leather ankle boots found their way into my basket, and then to my door.
Funny that.
Funny also how much I love these.
They’re an easy slip-on style, smooth leather upper, with elastic detailing on the sides and the classic Chelsea Boot back tab. The sole is durable on the ground-side, comfortable because of the cushioned inner, and fits true to size even with the almond shaped toe. There’s a slight heel to fit with the Chelsea Boot look, but they’re really a very flat shoe. Points for flexible soles too. Oh and half sizes are available.
These are such an everyday wear boot for me, I get so much use out of them which definitely helped me justify the nearly £30 they are – the blacks are slightly more but worth the money – and for real leather uppers and such a comfy shoe you’d be looking at nearly double that in some brands.
Little winners these are. If you’re looking for a flat, durable boot to add to your wardrobe then give these a whirl. Let me know what you think too!

I've got these in the black and I've ALMOST worn them to death. I genuinely wear them about 364 out of 365 days in the year. I really want the brown pair too after reading this though! xMartha Jane | http://www.marthajanemusic.com

These are so lovely! I had a pair of tan ankle boots a couple of years ago which I loved beyond belief, but can't ever seem to remember what happened to them! This is convincing me to possibly buy a pair…Meg | A Little Twist Of…
