My collection of skater skirts has had to make room in the last few months for a growing collection of a-line sisters. It’s a trend I’m totally crushin’ on right now – button- or zip-through look in a slightly more structured material than a lot of my floaty other things. They’re a really versatile item to have in your wardrobe too, they cinch at the waist and flare in a way that doesn’t make you look like you’re about to grab a pair of dance shoes. With so many different styles on the scene right now, there’s definitely something for everyone – but I’ve picked my three fave skirts and shown you how I’d style them 😀
the patterned zip-through (h&m)
This skirt has been my absolute jam recently. I usually wear the print with a neutral top, black, grey, or white so that it doesn’t overpower the print of the skirt. I’ve already written a bit about my love for it in a little H&M try on haul, so if you want the skirt specifics head on over there. I love grunging this up, style wise: slap on a band tee, docs, denim jacket… good 2 go. 😀
the corduroy button down – burgundy (urban outfitters)
This skirt was the first piece of clothing I ordered from Urban Outfitters, and I really love it… it’s just a little bit big for me. It’s the smallest size they do though, and because I really do like this skirt lots I tend to tuck things into it – like Primark mens white shirts. Shirts and skirts are a great casual-but-put-together look… something I like to pretend I am.
the chocolate contrast trim button through (asos)
I realised, in the ASOS sale, no less, that I don’t actually own anything that is … chocolate coloured. Or camel. At all. I mean… It’s not really a colour I’ve ever gravitated towards when buying clothes, at least not for a while, and somehow I’ve managed to keep that consistent? While still liking both these colours immensely for clothing. ANYWAY. I picked up this skirt (and sweater) in the ASOS sale and I think it’s a really cute colour combination. What do you think? I feel that the skirt will go with lots – it’s got a bit of a Western vibe to it because of the contrast stitching, so I think it’d look quite cool with some denim.
What do you think of the a-line trend? How would you style one?

I love the a-line skirt trend, it has a more of a grown up feel and is a good move on from the skater skirt. Love the patterned H&M one! xhttp://www.northernmagpie.com/

I love my A-line skirts, but I actually think my hips are slightly too wide for them, and because of my scoliosis, they twist around and ride up on one side! Gutted, as I love them xMartha Jane | http://www.marthajanemusic.comMartha Jane | http://www.marthajanemusic.com
