I do love a challenge, and 2016 in the style arena has presented some fab styling challenges with ruffles, clashing prints and the return of basics, but a bit souped up. Hot on the trend list for the new season is another challenge: the jumpsuit. It’s something I’ve been playing around with myself in a more casual sense, I bought my first pair of full-length dungarees this month! (pictured above.) That purchase made me wonder how I’d style more traditional cut jumpsuits, as they’re a pretty versatile piece and can be taken from casual right through to night out. A perfect accompaniment, or alternative, to the party dress for the glitzy season.

So I’ve styled two of House of Fraser’s jumpsuits as some inspiration for this season.

Although I’m not usually a fan of Michael Kors, this jumpsuit is all sorts of effortless dreamy. The button detailing and relaxed fit gives off that ‘life totally together’ vibe while still being comfy and ‘not too much’. It’s a fab piece that can be dressed down for coffee runs – chuck on some stan smiths, messy bun/loose waves, long camel coat, and a backpack – or up for more evening-suitable attire – switch the trainers for smart brogues or barely there heels and you’re onto a winner. The tapered trouser is another nod to this season’s look, though it would also work very well with a turn or two to expose a bit more ankle.

For something that can easily be taken from day to night whilst still being pretty, this Quiz crepe jumpsuit is definitely a winner. Dark florals are one of the AW seasons’ best prints – you’ll be seeing them everywhere – and this jumpsuit has beautiful white blooms with burned gold leaves to offset the monochrome slightly. Again, it’s a tapered leg, so ticking off more of the trend boxes, and has an elasticated waistband to cinch the waist a little. For a daytime look, I’d wear with patent loafers and a plain bomber, throw a choker in there and a shoulder bag to put my life for the day into. For evening, I’d swap the loafers for caged heels (preferably block, stilettos and I don’t get on) in either silver or black, a cute clutch, one stud earring, one long – because fashion – and maybe a longline blazer or a swishy cape (because there’s no better feeling than swishing about in a cape).

Of course the key to styling any tricky piece is confidence, but if you feel good (and comfortable) in what you wear that’ll come.
