I have a list as long as my arm of places that I’d really like to visit. Mostly cafe’s, some restaurants, some locations, also mostly in Seoul. The Summer Bangkok has been on that list for quite some time, but I’ve just never had the chance to get myself over to Ikseon-dong for a visit. I mean, I’ve been to Ikseon-dong to explore, but I just never made it to The Summer Bangkok before.
It took until Hangul Day (a national holiday for the creation of the Korean writing system) to schedule a trip to the new trendy area just out of Jeongno 3-ga station specifically to see what The Summer Bangkok had to offer (other than a lot of instagram envy on my part).
Nestled among the winding streets and renovated Hanok, in an area that is not shy of its centenary, sits The Summer, or The Summer Bangkok, cafe-restaurant hybrid that pulls interior inspiration from Southeast Asia. It’s got that instagram aesthetic down pat, and whisks you away to thoughts of a tropical climate whilst being in one of the busier areas of Seoul.
The Summer has definitely evolved from its early stages. Initially just a lounge/bar, it began offering a cafe menu, and then most recently has combined to offer dining. Thematically, the dining pulls from Thai cuisine with a Korean twist, the drinks range from tea to cocktails, and the cafe menu doesn’t have the most variety, but a good selection. I took Elodie from Elle! Yeah along with me to sample their sweet treats for brunch, and to finally tick the location off my list.
What we got: Afternoon Tea
We couldn’t decide on a single plate, so decided to try the Afternoon Tea option. For 28,000won we had a three tier platter and two drinks. 28,000won for two people together – Dorothy, we’re not in London anymore, reasonably priced food! The drink options are any tea or coffee from the drinks menu.
