In my secret, unglamorous, not-for-the-internet life I have issues. Lots of them, but one of the main (and wholly aggravating) grievances I have is eczema. In all honesty I think I probably suffered with it in the freaking womb, since I can’t actually a remember a time when it’s been truly 100% gone.

It always comes back too. Sorry myths about ‘growing out of it’ that got tossed around as a child. It’s about as stubborn as my hayfever.

If you suffer, then you’ll know that eczema = super duper sensitive skin. The slightest thing can set it off, sometimes completely unknown, so I’m always very wary about what I put on my skin, be it hair care, makeup, or more generalised skincare. Ingredient labels are my best friend. I have a little book with the fancy names I need to avoid.

Hand creams are a bit of a minefield. I get eczema outbreaks on my left palm and top knuckles of my middle three fingers on both hands the minute the weather turns cold (or there’s dust, or I’m really stressed out). It’s pain. It’s horrible, disgusting pain and hi yes you’re probably wincing reading this but eczema is the least amount of fun in winter. And hand creams are such a saviour when they work. It’s just finding one that does, without irritating, that soothes without the chemical cocktail of a medicated cream.

So, Soap & Glory – how does your Endless Glove moisture mask & hand cream fare?

Purchased in duty free on the way to Rome – I was in desperate need of something – for a price of £2.50 and 24ml. Easily recognisable in pink packaging with it’s rhubarb and custard toned label, witty slogan and promises of moisture for my dry, dry skin, I hopped on over to the cashier as fast as I could.

I put it on almost immediately, and the first things I noticed pretty much simultaneously was the colour – it’s a, uh, lovely yellow colour – and the smell.

Scented products are usually avoid avoid avoid.

Hoping that I hadn’t just wasted some valuable change, I massaged it into my hands as per instruction (the alternative method of application is pop cotton gloves over the top and sleep) and went about the rest of the day.

Which produced a good result. Even in the dry plane air my hands didn’t feel irritable or burning, movement wasn’t painful, a relief when you’re maneuvering suitcases out of overhead bins and dealing with the unnecessarily harsh straps of laptop bags.  At the end of the day I was still reaction free.

I applied the Endless Glove moisture mask & hand cream in the morning before I went out and found that I didn’t really need to reapply throughout the day as much as I would with some of its contenders. The formulation feels quite thick on, definitely like you’re wearing a mask on your hands a little after application, but I think that this helps with moisture retention and probably distribution into the skin.

By ‘reapply throughout the day as much’ I mean: I probably reapplied once in the evening, sometimes in the afternoon if my hands were feeling especially dry. With other hand creams I’ve tried I’ve needed to put more product on every two hours sometimes, which is a hassle when you’re doing things.

So far, applied twice a day, it hasn’t caused extra irritation, but has helped keep my hands feeling far more moisturised and far less painful. My recent bad stretch of eczema is nearly healed now – and I can’t say that this has definitely done that, considering I was using it in tandem with light applications of hydrocortisone ointment on the worst areas – but it has definitely helped soothe and keep the skin from being too dry.

Other than the scent it’s not a bad product at all if you’re in a fix and looking for a new hand cream. Though I would advise you to be cautious if you know that scented products are an irritant towards your own skin – sensitivity levels for certain products vary.
